Poetry Schmoetry Blogfest

I am a willing participant in Shelly Brown's Poetry Schmoetry Blogfest.

Here is my entry:

A Boat Against the Current
by Me

The gentle lap of salt and sea
lick tenderly the aging hull.
My body’s just the boat, you see,
the tides, the clock that will not slow.

Memories, like misty rain
or green-light glints across the bay,
tug and pull—a tender pain
that flickers there, but will not stay.

Deserted dreams, like anchors sink
through darkened leagues, past hopes and fears.
Fading gray with every blink
but not forgotten yet, I think—
too deep to vanish with the years.

And so I sail and ebb and flow,
waiting for my time to go.
Forever borne back to my shore,
my youth, my life, my nevermore,
and isn’t it tragic to think so?

A boat against the current
waging war with Father Time.
Searching for that summer place,
that first embrace, that lover’s face--
yearning for a chance to grace
my carefree youth gone by.

Just for fun, I had my immensely talented brother put my poem to music, and although I've pared down the poem now to what you see above, the original version is in the song.
